Dumbphones With WhatsApp in 2026: 8 Phones That Run It
By Finn Albar

A dumbphone with WhatsApp in 2026 is an Android phone with a stricter system on top. WhatsApp no longer runs on KaiOS, so the classic KaiOS flips lost it. In the US, the Wisephone II is the pick: it keeps WhatsApp, maps, and a camera, and it has no web browser.
These eight phones suit someone who needs WhatsApp for a family or work group but wants less of everything else. Each one lets in more than a plain flip, and the more a phone allows, the less of a pause it gives you. The one US flip here, the Dumbphone 2, links WhatsApp from a smartphone you keep.
If WhatsApp is the one app you must keep, try the lighter step first: a minimalist launcher or an app blocker on the phone you own. If you can drop WhatsApp, the best dumbphones give you a firmer stop.

How we picked
Every phone here meets four conditions:
- WhatsApp comes from the maker. It is preinstalled, in a vetted app list, or in the app store the phone ships with. A phone where you copy the app over yourself does not count.
- You can order it new. Its maker sells it in at least one region today, and two of the eight ship later.
- It runs on 4G or 5G. Every phone here has 4G, and three have 5G.
- It holds something back by design. The maker locks the app list, leaves out the app store, or blocks whole categories at the system level. An ordinary Android phone with an open store does not count, which is why the Unihertz Jelly Star is not here.
The first four phones have no open app store. The last four keep an app source behind a stricter system, so the picks run from the firmest boundary to the softest.
KaiOS flips are out, because WhatsApp ended its KaiOS app in early 2025. The Mudita Kompakt is out too, because WhatsApp only gets on it by sideloading. Commodore’s Callback 8020 flip offers WhatsApp at setup, but it is not here because it has not shipped.
Phones made for children can run WhatsApp too, but a parent controls which apps install. On the Bark Phone, for example, the Starter plan has no app store at all. Those phones do a different job, and safe phones for kids compares them.
The best dumbphones with WhatsApp
1. Wisephone II: best for WhatsApp without a browser

The Wisephone II is a locked-down Samsung that keeps WhatsApp inside a short list of approved apps. WhatsApp sits in the optional Tool Drawer, next to Signal, Waze, Uber, and Spotify. But the phone has no web browser, no email, and no social media.
It suits a parent in a family group chat, or a worker whose team runs on WhatsApp, who still wants maps and a camera. WiseOS adds a two-factor code tool. The Wisephone Portal lets you or a trusted person choose which features stay on.
The plan is the catch. Every Wisephone needs a WiseOS subscription, and so does the Tool Drawer, so WhatsApp lasts only as long as you pay. Techless also reserves the right to add or remove third-party apps at any time.
You can keep your own carrier or use Techless’s service.
2. Dumbphone 2: a US flip that links WhatsApp from your phone

The Dumbphone 2 is a TCL Flip 2 that dumb.co rebuilt around its own system, dumbOS. WhatsApp runs as a linked device: you scan a QR code with WhatsApp on your smartphone, and your chats appear on the flip. The phone does not support email or sideloaded apps.
It suits someone who wants to leave the smartphone at home but stay in the family group. The phone also takes forwarded calls and synced texts and contacts from an iPhone or Android phone. It adds maps, Uber, and Lyft, and it is the only flip here sold in the US.
The plan is the catch. The phone works only with dumb.co’s own service on T-Mobile, with a 4-month minimum, and WhatsApp needs the Dumber plan, about $21 a month, or the Dumb plan above it. The cheapest plan leaves WhatsApp out.
You also keep a smartphone, because the WhatsApp account lives there. Blue units come refurbished, and grey units come new.
3. Opel TouchFlip 4G: a WhatsApp flip sold outside the US

The Opel TouchFlip 4G is a flip built with older users in mind. WhatsApp is one of its headline features. It adds a touchscreen inside the flip for typing chats, plus a front camera.
It suits a parent or grandparent who wants a flip that still reaches the family chat. Opel phones are Australian designed, and Opel runs sites for Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland. The phone works on any Australian or New Zealand 4G network.
An SOS button calls up to five contacts and texts them your location. It is the wrong pick in the US, because Opel publishes no US carrier for it.
You cannot install third-party apps, which keeps the menu short. Still, Opel’s own WhatsApp fix sends you to the Browser to download the app again from WhatsApp’s site, so the phone has a way online. Opel recommends charging it daily, and it charges over micro-USB.
4. AGM M7: cheapest unlocked phone with WhatsApp built in

The AGM M7 is a rugged keypad phone with a small touchscreen, and the cheapest unlocked phone here. It runs a simplified Android with a few apps preinstalled, WhatsApp among them. But the phone has no app store.
It suits a worker on a loud site who wants WhatsApp groups and push-to-talk on a phone that survives drops. It carries IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H ratings, a removable battery, and a side key you can set to push-to-talk. In the US, it works with AT&T and T-Mobile, but not Verizon.
The preinstalled apps also include Facebook and TikTok, so the M7 does not keep feeds off the phone. You can also install apps from other sources, though the phone does not support Google Play.
VoLTE support is limited and depends on the network. Confirm that calls work on your carrier before you move your number.
5. Balance Phone: a Samsung with the feeds blocked for good

The Balance Phone is a Samsung Galaxy A37 running Balance OS. It keeps the Play Store but blocks whole categories: social media, video streaming, online gaming, gambling, pornography, and dating. The block covers apps and websites, and WhatsApp sits on its list of allowed apps.
It suits an adult in Europe who needs WhatsApp, banking, and maps, and wants the feeds gone for good. You cannot remove or weaken the restrictions from the phone. Balance OS even survives a factory reset.
Check the bands before you use it outside Europe. The Balance Phone carries fewer bands than the Pro model, so Balance points anyone outside Europe to the Pro.
The browser stays, though Balance filters it and limits browsing to Chrome and Ecosia. If you ask, Balance support can switch browsers off completely. Anything outside the blocked categories is still one download away.
6. Sidephone SP-01: a keypad phone you fill one pack at a time

Sidephone

- 4G
- Wi-Fi
- Yes
- Battery
- 2,000 mAh
- Screen

4G · Wi-Fi · GPS · Hotspot · Camera · Music · Keypad
The Sidephone SP-01 is a small touchscreen phone with a magnetic keypad you can swap, running Sidephone’s own de-Googled Android. It ships with a short list of basic apps, no browser, and no Play Store. WhatsApp comes from Sidephone’s Messaging App Pack, which you add to the App Library by scanning a QR code.
It suits someone on T-Mobile who wants WhatsApp, Signal, and maps on a phone that starts close to a flip. The two-step install is intentional, so each new app is a choice you make on purpose. The phone is sold unlocked, and Sidephone’s own plan is optional.
The App Library is not a fence. Sidephone’s packs include browsers, and nothing blocks sideloading. Apps that rely on Google’s push service may not deliver notifications in real time, and the phone will not work with Verizon.
7. Dumber Mini: a keypad Android with an app store

The Dumber Mini is a Nokia-style keypad phone with a small touchscreen, sold on the promise of WhatsApp and maps. It runs DumberOS, a de-Googled Android, and ships with either the Aurora Store or the Google Play Store. A built-in App Blocker adds restrictions on the apps you choose.
It suits someone on T-Mobile who needs WhatsApp, Spotify, and maps on a small screen pitched to discourage YouTube. Dumber supports only T-Mobile in the US, so skip it on AT&T or Verizon.
Signing in to WhatsApp is the real risk. Some accounts fail Google’s Play Integrity check on phones Google has not certified. Dumber says most accounts work and suggests testing your number in an Android emulator before you order.
8. Minimal Phone 2: a keyboard phone on full Android

- Wi-Fi
- Yes
- Battery
- 3,400 mAh

5G · Wi-Fi · GPS · Camera · eSIM · Headphone jack · Music
The Minimal Phone 2 is an Android phone with a physical keyboard, and the softest boundary here. It ships with Google services and the Play Store, where WhatsApp is a normal download. Minimal does not promise WhatsApp by name, but it asks you to name any messaging app you depend on before you order.
It suits a typist who wants WhatsApp, email, and work apps, with fewer pulls toward them. Minimal OS offers Monk, Focus, and Unrestricted modes. The stricter settings stay in place until you reset the phone.
It is the wrong pick if you want the apps gone, because the Play Store stays. The ship date is an estimate, and you can cancel for a full refund until it ships. Matching bands also do not guarantee your carrier will activate it.
Why WhatsApp now needs an Android phone
WhatsApp used to run on KaiOS flips, and it no longer does. WhatsApp announced the sunset of its KaiOS service. Phones where WhatsApp was never logged in, or was logged out, lost it on June 25, 2024.
Accounts already logged in kept working until early 2025. HMD’s KaiOS phones with WhatsApp preinstalled hit the same cutoff. So a KaiOS flip bought today has no WhatsApp, whatever an old listing promises.
That leaves Android. WhatsApp needs Android 6.0 or newer, and most of these phones run Android under their own system. The Dumbphone 2 links to WhatsApp on your smartphone instead, so the real question is how much else each phone lets in.
Google certification matters too. Some accounts get a Play Integrity check at sign-in, and they cannot sign in on a phone Google has not certified. Still, Dumber says a signed-in account keeps working as long as you do not sign out.
What sideloading means on the Mudita Kompakt
Sideloading means installing an app file yourself instead of getting it from a store. The Mudita Kompakt has no app store and no messaging app like WhatsApp. To add WhatsApp, you download the app file and install it from a computer, over USB-C, with Mudita Center.
The Kompakt runs without Google services, so sideloaded apps that depend on them likely will not work correctly. The warranty also does not cover sideloading, and the Kompakt has no built-in way to uninstall a sideloaded app.
Dumber names the Kompakt among the phones where the same WhatsApp sign-in check applies. So we treat the Kompakt as a phone without WhatsApp. It is a calm E Ink phone for calls, texts, and offline maps, and our Mudita Kompakt review covers it.
How to choose a dumbphone with WhatsApp
Decide these five things before you compare phones.
- How WhatsApp gets on the phone. It comes preinstalled on the AGM M7 and the Opel TouchFlip 4G, and as a vetted app on the Wisephone II. The Dumbphone 2 links it from your smartphone, and the Sidephone adds it from an app pack. On the other three, it is a store download, so the store comes with it.
- What else comes in with it. The Wisephone II has no browser, and the Dumbphone 2’s app list has none. The Opel TouchFlip 4G has one, and the M7 ships with Facebook and TikTok. If WhatsApp is the only app you need, pick the phone that lets in least besides it.
- Whether your account will sign in. Minimal and Balance ship Google’s Play Store. The Dumber Mini and the Sidephone are de-Googled, and the M7 does not support Google Play, so ask the maker about sign-in first. On the Dumbphone 2, WhatsApp signs in on your smartphone and the flip links to it.
- Your carrier and country. In the US, the AGM M7 works on AT&T and T-Mobile, and the Dumber Mini only on T-Mobile. The Dumbphone 2 runs only on dumb.co’s own service, and the Sidephone will not work with Verizon. Opel publishes no US carrier for the TouchFlip 4G, and the Balance Phone has fewer bands outside Europe.
- The running cost. The Wisephone II needs a WiseOS plan every month, and the Dumbphone 2 needs a dumb.co plan with a 4-month minimum. Balance includes Balance OS for the life of the phone.
If you can live without WhatsApp, phones without internet access set firmer limits.
When to pick a launcher or an app blocker instead
A phone with WhatsApp still has a chat app that can ping you all day. If the pull comes from feeds and video, not from WhatsApp, you may not need a new phone.
On Android, a minimalist launcher hides every app except the few you choose, and WhatsApp can be one of them. On iPhone or Android, an app blocker can lock the feeds for set hours and leave WhatsApp alone. Both cost little or nothing, and you keep your phone and your number.
Go the other way if WhatsApp itself is the problem. A phone from phones that only call and text is the firmer stop, and a plain text still reaches anyone with a number.
Common questions
What is the best dumbphone with WhatsApp in 2026?
In the US, the Wisephone II, because it keeps WhatsApp in a vetted app list and has no web browser. The Dumbphone 2 is the flip option if you keep a smartphone, and in Europe the Balance Phone blocks feeds for good. The Dumbphone Finder filters every phone that offers WhatsApp.
Does the HMD Barbie Phone have WhatsApp?
No. The international model runs S30+, a basic system with a few built-in apps such as Malibu Snake and Barbie meditation, and HMD promises no distracting apps. The US model ran KaiOS, and WhatsApp ended there for new sign-ins on June 25, 2024, and for everyone else in early 2025.
Does the Wisephone have WhatsApp?
Yes, as an optional extra. WhatsApp and Signal sit in the Wisephone II’s Tool Drawer, which needs a WiseOS subscription. Techless can add or remove third-party apps at any time, so check the app lineup on the day you order.
Does the Unihertz Jelly Star have WhatsApp?
Yes, as an ordinary Play Store download. The Jelly Star is Google certified, so Google Play opens millions of apps to it. That open store makes it a small smartphone, not a dumbphone.
Can a dumbphone use WhatsApp as a linked device?
Only with a smartphone somewhere else. You can link up to four devices to your primary phone, but you still need that phone to register your account and link new devices. The Dumbphone 2 works this way, and so does the DumberChat app on the Dumber Mini.
Is there a flip phone with WhatsApp?
Yes, the Dumbphone 2 in the US, which links WhatsApp from your smartphone on dumb.co’s two higher plans. Abroad, Opel sells the TouchFlip 4G with WhatsApp on its New Zealand, UK, and Irish sites. The carrier flips in best cheap flip phones do not offer WhatsApp.
Final thoughts
Pick by the one app you are keeping and by where you live. In the US, the Wisephone II keeps WhatsApp with the least around it, if a monthly plan is fine. The Dumbphone 2 is the flip for someone who keeps a smartphone at home to link it to.
On T-Mobile, the Dumber Mini puts WhatsApp on a keypad once you test your number, and the Sidephone adds apps one pack at a time. The AGM M7 is the cheapest unlocked way in, but TikTok ships next to WhatsApp.
Abroad, the Opel TouchFlip 4G suits a parent who wants a flip, and the Balance Phone suits an adult in Europe. Choose the Minimal Phone 2 only if you want a keyboard and accept the Play Store.
