AGM M8 Flip Review: Rugged Flip and Security+ Model

By Finn Albar

The AGM M8 Flip closed with a round outer display, and open with big keys and M1 to M3 memory keys

The AGM M8 Flip is a 4G flip that AGM calls rugged, and AGM lists a 104 dB speaker and an SOS key. The AGM M8 Flip Security+ is the same phone, but AGM disables the camera, Bluetooth, mobile data, MMS, microSD, and USB transfer. Choose by those features, and check your carrier first, because AGM names only Tello.

Both are a firmer step than a launcher from best minimalist launchers, because AGM’s FAQ says they have no browser and allow no app installs. Best phones that only call and text compares the wider field.

Who the AGM M8 Flip is for

The AGM M8 Flip suits a reader who wants a camera, a memory card slot, and picture messages if the network and SIM support MMS. AGM’s product images also name Bluetooth. AGM lists big keys, an SOS key, and hearing aid compatibility, and it calls the quick-dial keys One Click Call.

The AGM M8 Flip Security+ suits a reader who wants AGM’s disabled list: camera, Bluetooth, mobile data, MMS, microSD, USB transfer, and multimedia. AGM’s European page markets it for factories, government buildings, and companies.

For a place with a camera rule, check the rule first. AGM’s Security+ photo shows a lens and flash on the back, and the manual says only that the camera is disabled, so the lens appears to stay on the phone.

Skip both if you want maps, WhatsApp, or a carrier that activates the phone for you. AGM lists no GPS or location feature, no maps app, and no phone plan. Its FAQ says the phone allows no app installs.

AGM sells the AGM M8 Flip and the AGM M8 Flip Security+ from its own store, and each page names a US warehouse in its title. Both come with or without a charging dock. AGM’s shipping guide lists free UPS delivery for the US and calls its times a general guide.

AGM’s terms give a 12-month repair warranty from the day you receive the parcel. Repairs are free for faults AGM judges are not human-made, and AGM charges for damage it judges human-made. AGM excludes vandalism.

AGM’s returns guarantee covers a phone that is not as described or has a quality fault, if you ask within 15 days of receiving it. AGM lists a change of mind as outside the guarantee, so contact AGM first and expect to pay the return shipping.

What matters

Build and water ratings

AGM’s two spec tables list IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H. The manual covers both builds, and its waterproof warning for the M8 Flip says the battery door and the USB port cover must be completely closed to prevent water damage. AGM’s FAQ says its phones meet IP68 and MIL-STD-810H under normal usage.

AGM’s European page says drops of up to 1.5 m onto concrete are no problem, even with the flip open. AGM lists no water depth, time limit, or IP69K test conditions, and some bullet lines say MIL-STD-810G instead of 810H.

The manual lists a rubber cover on the USB-C port, so charging means opening it and closing it again.

Big keys, typing, and languages

AGM lists a big keypad of 21 keys with large numbers, a large font, and a simple system. Letters sit under the digits, so you type a text on the number keys, not on a full keyboard.

AGM’s title says One Click Call, and its manual says the M1, M2, and M3 keys each store a number that a long press of 3 seconds dials. The American version lists English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Russian.

Speaker and hearing aids

AGM lists a 104 dB speaker. Its manual calls the speaker waterproof and says the volume may drop after immersion but recovers once the phone is dry.

AGM’s European page and its US Security+ image give a T3/M3 hearing aid rating. The US M8 Flip page says only that the phone is hearing aid compatible, and AGM links no test report. We found no FCC grant to confirm it.

The Security+ turns Bluetooth off, so check that if your hearing aids pair over Bluetooth.

SOS key and quick dial

The SOS key sits on the side of the phone. AGM’s guide says a 5-second long press activates the SOS function and will automatically dial its number, which is 911 by default in the Americas. You can change the number under Settings, then SOS Settings.

Both builds list the key. The guide describes no alert text and no location sharing, so we would not count on it to tell a parent where a child is. It also lists a reminder light for missed calls, missed texts, and charging.

What the Security+ switches off

AGM’s quick-start guide says the AGM M8 Flip Security+ disables Bluetooth, cellular data, MMS, the camera, USB data transfer, microSD expansion, file management, and multimedia. AGM’s Security+ page marks MMS and microSD as not supported, and its FAQ says there is no browser and no way to install apps.

Calls and plain texts stay, because AGM’s spec table lists SMS support. The guide describes no setting that turns the disabled functions back on. AGM does not say how contacts reach the phone with USB data transfer, Bluetooth, and microSD all off.

AGM’s page title promises Secure Data, Reduced vulnerabilities, and Zero tracking, and its European page calls the phone basically untraceable. Treat that as marketing, because any phone on a mobile network still talks to the carrier and AGM lists no independent security test.

Browser and apps

AGM’s FAQ says both builds have no internet browser and allow no app installs. The FAQ gives that answer to a parent who wants a child to have no internet or social media access.

AGM says the system is Mocor, which it uses for its feature phones. AGM lists no app store and no parent controls.

Carrier fit and VoLTE

AGM lists LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 26, and 66 for the American version. Its European page tells you to check with your local carrier, and AGM lists no carrier approvals.

AGM’s FAQ answers a Tello question with “Since Tello uses T-Mobile’s GSM network, the AGM M8 will work just fine.” That answer names GSM, not LTE or VoLTE, and the FAQ carries no date. The manual says VoLTE works only in some areas and with some SIM cards.

The manual says a 4G, HD, or VoLTE label on the signal bar during a call means VoLTE is working. Ask your carrier about the exact model before you port a number. The phone takes two nano-SIMs, but AGM says you cannot use both for calls or data at once.

Battery and charging

AGM rates the removable battery at 7 hours of calls and 2 weeks on standby. The manual says you open the battery door with a screwdriver, so swapping in a spare takes a tool.

The box holds a power adapter and a USB-C cable, and the manual recommends a 5V/1A or 5V/2A charger. AGM sells a version with a charging dock, and the manual lists dock contacts on the back.

Camera, memory card, and extras

The M8 Flip has a 2 MP rear camera with an LED flash, per AGM’s manual, so treat it as a snapshot camera. It also takes a microSD card of up to 128 GB.

AGM’s spec table says MMS depends on the local network and may not be available in some countries. The manual says MMS depends on the APN settings and may not work with some SIM cards. It adds that the phone does not take automatic settings updates from your carrier, so you may need to enter them yourself.

AGM’s spec table lists no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or FM radio, but its product images for the M8 Flip name an FM radio and Bluetooth 5.1. The Security+ disables Bluetooth and multimedia.

Software and updates

AGM lists no update schedule, and its guide shows no software update menu. AGM’s software page links a ROM file and an operation guide for the American M8, hosted on a file-sharing site, not on AGM’s own site. The quick-start guide also lists a factory reset code.

What both leave out

AGM lists no GPS or location feature, maps app, hotspot, or Wi-Fi calling, and its spec table says only Sensors: No. Its FAQ says the phone allows no app installs. We would expect no WhatsApp and no authenticator app.

We would expect codes sent by text to still arrive, since AGM’s spec table lists SMS support, so only app-based codes are out.

Limitations

Carrier fit comes first. AGM names only Tello, lists bands but no approvals, and says VoLTE works only in some areas and with some SIM cards.

The two builds trade one risk for another. The AGM M8 Flip has a camera and can send picture messages where MMS works, which a workplace with a camera rule will not want.

The Security+ lists the camera as disabled, but AGM’s photo shows the lens. AGM does not say how contacts reach the phone with USB data transfer, Bluetooth, and microSD all off.

AGM lists no GPS, maps, or WhatsApp. Charging means opening a rubber cover, and the battery door needs a screwdriver. If a child needs location sharing and parent controls, see best safe phones for kids.

Alternatives

Pick the Sunbeam F1 Pro if you want a rugged flip whose maker publishes a carrier chart. Sunbeam says its phones are unlocked and work with any compatible carrier, and some models add maps or email, but it costs far more.

Common questions

Does the AGM M8 Flip have a browser or WhatsApp?

No. AGM answers a parent’s question about internet access by saying the phone has no browser and allows no app installs, so you cannot add WhatsApp. Calls and texts still work. The Dumbphone Finder has a WhatsApp filter for phones that do run it.

What does the AGM M8 Flip Security+ turn off?

AGM’s quick-start guide lists eight things: Bluetooth, cellular data, MMS, the camera, USB data transfer, microSD expansion, file management, and multimedia. Calls and plain texts remain. AGM does not say how contacts reach the phone with USB, Bluetooth, and microSD off, so ask AGM before you buy for a workplace.

Is the AGM M8 Flip waterproof?

AGM calls the phone waterproof, and its spec tables list IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD-810H. The manual’s warning for the M8 Flip says the battery door and USB cover must be completely closed, and it adds that speaker volume may drop after immersion. AGM states no depth or time limit, so ask AGM before you rely on it underwater.

Does the AGM M8 Flip work on US carriers?

AGM lists LTE bands for the American version but no carrier approvals, and the only carrier it names is Tello. Its FAQ gives GSM as the reason, which says nothing about 4G calling, and the manual limits VoLTE to some areas and SIM cards. For flips a carrier sells and activates, see best cheap flip phones.

Is the AGM M8 Flip compatible with hearing aids?

AGM lists hearing aid compatibility on its M8 Flip page and shows T3/M3 on its European page and the US Security+ image. It links no test report, and we found no FCC grant. The Security+ turns Bluetooth off, so check that if your hearing aids pair over Bluetooth.

Which AGM M8 Flip should you buy?

Choose the AGM M8 Flip if you want the camera and picture messages where your network and SIM support MMS. Choose the Security+ if you also want mobile data, Bluetooth, microSD, and USB transfer disabled. For more call-and-text options, see best phones that only call and text.

Final thoughts

The two builds are one 4G flip with a feature choice. The AGM M8 Flip has a camera and sends picture messages where MMS works, while the AGM M8 Flip Security+ drops those plus mobile data, Bluetooth, and USB transfer. Both pause your phone because AGM says they have no browser and allow no app installs.

We would pick the Security+ only if you want everything on AGM’s disabled list gone. We would pick the M8 Flip if you want the camera. Either way, ask your carrier about VoLTE for the model first, and use the Dumbphone Finder to compare other rugged flips.
